Matthew 5:13-16: 13 “You are the salt of the earth, but if salt has lost its taste, how shall its saltiness be restored? It is no longer good for anything except to be thrown out and trampled under people's feet. 14 “You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden. 15 Nor do people light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a stand, and it gives light to all in the house. 16 In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that  they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.

Salt and Light

Salt and Light is the name of the youth group at Sylvia Baptist Church. The youth group consists of 6-12 grade students. We got our youth group name from the passage of scripture found in the gospel of Matthew. The aim of the youth group at SBC is to be salt and light every day in this world.

We are Salt
What does this mean?

As salt, our aim is to remain salty. How do we maintain our saltiness? We do so by reading God's word, praying together, and seeking Him in all things. We cannot do this alone. We need to be with other "salty" people, so our saltiness does not fade. Every bible study, whether that's Sunday morning/night or Wednesday night, is designed to keep us "salty" and seeking the Lord.

We are Light
What does this mean?

As light, our job is to not keep our brightness hidden. We achieve this by being out in the community, inviting people to local events, and showing the love of Jesus wherever we go. We do not desire to hide our light under a basket. Instead, we want the world to see Jesus in us! Our light is Jesus and the world need more of Him.
